The ISC's focus for 2021 is on organising a great race on the water. While the UK Government's roadmap out of lockdown suggests we will be able to run some of our usual social activities ashore, we are very mindful of the likely need to avoid large gatherings over the race weekend and for those taking part observe all relevant guidelines and restrictions.

Therefore, as restrictions are eased over the coming weeks and months, we will be updating this page with a four-point RIR COVID checklist, which we expect all skippers and crew to follow before, during and after the race. This will help ensure that RIR 2021 is a COVID-safe event and allow us all to set an excellent example for the world of sailing.

The checklist will include:

Pre-race planning

  • Familiarisation with the current UK Government guidance on social distancing
  • Understanding of the current RYA guidance on recreational boating
  • Knowledge of any current restrictions imposed by relevant harbour authorities, including Notices to Mariners
  • Compliance with any travel and quarantining requirements imposed by relevant state authorities

  • Awareness of the current guidance and restrictions in place at your local marina and wherever you plan to berth over the race weekend

Sailing the race

  • Understanding of the current RYA guidance on recreational boating
  • Compliance with any crew restrictions imposed by the ISC or by the UK Government

Post-race and shoreside

  • Advice and guidance for those intending to stay in Cowes over the race weekend
  • Berthing restrictions for Cowes marinas
  • Arrangements for the Parade village, prizegiving and weather briefings

We expect to issue the first RIR COVID checklist on 1st May and to update it as often as necessary in line with changing restrictions and guidance from the relevant authorities. Please check back here regularly.
